Astronauts may soon eat sandwiches in space.

Bread has been banned in space because its crumbs can disperse everywhere, but a German company hopes to change this by making crumb-free bread for space.

Bake in Space, aims to provide fresh bread to astronauts in a bid to improve astronauts' well being on long-duration missions such as on a moon base or on Mars.

According to Bake In Space's websites, the bread will be 'the typical weekend German bread roll'. According to the researchers, the hardest part of the process is developing dough with the correct texture. While bread that's chewier and tougher doesn't produce crumbs, it's also not particularly tasty.
